today is Thursday june 10, 2010.
We woke up today at 9:30. We had a quick breakfast(mine being cereal), lugged the fully packed bike boxes into the truck, dressed up all nice for, what we was hoping to be, the first class seats and got into the truck. With me,Dad and Tina all in the truck and feeling like sardines the entire way, we finally reach the airport. We unloaded the truck, left the 4 carry on bags with Tina, and dragged the boxes over into the airport. We payed the price($450) and shoved the boxes across the floor to the "over-sized luggage" area and let the guys there handle the rest. After that we went back outside to get the 4 carry on bags and see that the bags, Tina and the truck are gone. Dad looks over and says "I see her" and we walked down to see her coming out of the parking garage(how she found a parking spot I don't know) carrying the 4 bags all at once. We took the bags and walked off to the cafeteria. We grabbed some Wendy's and said are goodbye's to Tina and walked off to catch our flight. As we found our gate number people were already boarding the plane. Wow, right on time great news right? WRONG! It turns out there was over 40 people ahead of us that was using buddy passes(if you have a family member who works with delta, you can get what they call a buddy pass which allows you to pay for only 1/2 of a normal plane ticket(us paying less then $200) but the catch is that you don't reserve a seat as you do a normal plane. Instead you have to wait for a seat to be unclaimed
or else you'll have to wait for the next flight). After finding this out it slowly settles unto Dad that we are not going to be able to fly out today. So we called Tina(I'm sure she was as surprised as we was) to come pick us up and take us back home.
Friday June, 11
Well here we are. well me anyway. we got up at 4 something this morning(Tina took my alarm clock) and ran to the airport to hopefully catch the flight before everyone else. But of course everyone was thinking what we were thinking and we are back up
to number 35 in line of the stand-by list(people with buddy passes waiting in line). I've finally caught up with the blog being i didn't start till 9:00 last night.
Update:
Dad just came up to me and told me we have to find the next airplane at 8:30.
So we up and moved on over to A21. I got a great view by a window over here. Oh cool i can see planes take off from here. I can even see the sun rise in the sky. I just took some pictures ill throw them in for you guys. Dad just told me
that our position in line was now less than 30 but were not sure exactly what number we are. I'm thinking we will probably be on a plane at least by tonight but i sure wont mind sleeping in my bed another night if it turns out that way. I cant wait
to do a video blog and put it on Youtube for you guys. I bet it will be fun.
While we were waiting in our seats, they started boarding the plane. Sure enough there were seats to spare. They started calling the names of people in the waiting list and my Dad started crossing his fingers and praying that we were called out to go sit on the plane. As she kept calling out names butterfly's built in my stomach. You know that feeling you get when you were(or might still be)in school and
the teacher started calling names randomly for a class presentation and your getting nervous because your going to have to stand in front of the class and show what you did. Well that is pretty much what i felt(don't ask why, it must be school memories messing with my mind) when she was calling names. Sure enough they filled up the plane and we didn't get called to come aboard. From then we had our researcher(Tina) do some scrounging around for us on the net and found out that at 9:00 there would be a plane coming in with over 30 free seats. Thus, we decided to just go home and relax till about 8:30 or so then come back to the airport and check out that flight(Im sure dad is enjoying going back and forth through the airport, lugging around those annoying bags like i am). The time now is 3:00. ill talk to you later around 9:00 or so. See ya
Saturday june, 12.
Yeah we went home last night. I had a good sleep too. Last night we was talking about wether or not we should just wait it out till everyone fly's out or wether we should change tickets to fly directly to anchorage and take a trip up to Fairbanks. Well my dad decided to sleep on it and woke me up at 11:00 this morning to tell me he decided to just switch the plane tickets over to the anchorage flight. So I got lucky and Tina made me waffles this morning before we headed to the airport(again). As we got out of the car and got the bags in hand, Tina told us were to go to switch our flight. We had to head down to "non-revenue" check-in and have them switch it out. After finding out were it was, we headed down there(and entering the wrong room first) got into line. Of course the sliding doors were broken so I decided to take the bags, put them out of the way, let Dad get in line and I'll open and close the door for people. We waited in that room about 30 minutes
to an hour(me controlling the door the whole time which actually wasnt bad due to it was an out of the way location anyway)until Dad was able to change the tickets. We got very lucky and wasnt charged a dime(At first they were saying that it would be like $111.00 a ticket. Man did we get lucky). After that we went through security and was going down the esculator when we notice the herd at the doors of the metro. Being that we only had to go to the A gates I told dad "we should just walk down to the A gates its only right down there. Plus we get those moving floors so we dont have to walk if we dont have too." He hesitated for a second, then looked over at the walk path and said "Alright, lets go".I thuroughly enjoyed the walk path due to all the art on the walls and the sculptures in the middle of the walk-way. After the walk way was over we headed up the esculator and walked out to gate.
Ok. They are boarding now and they have 66 open seats and 16 on stand-by. High possibilty that we will be flying today. I'll continue when we get on or get denied.talk to you later. Bye.
