Monday August, 3
Slept good last night. Woke up with a wet tent but I made sure none got in by getting the tarp over it. After packing up we headed off to the town of Neskowin were we grabbed some breakfast at a local restaurant. Took forever too but those were the hardest working people we have seen in a restaurant in a long time. After that we took the little side trail off of highway 101 and into the old highway scenic route. Best idea ever. Most beautiful riding in a while. only like 5 cars passed us and a group of boy scouts went for a day ride along the path. They was a able to catch us on the hills but as soon as the downhill started we went off like a bullet because of the extra weight of the bags. Dad was able to pass a herd of them. "Felt good to be able to be able to say "on your left" and blow their doors off" Dad told me as we met up again. In the town of Otis we Grabbed some lunch and a group of bikers came over and grabbed some snacks. After that we all headed into Lincoln city were they stopped at a gas station and we kept going. We found a great spot at a beach and relaxed for awhile until we decided to grab a hotel room and get washed up. The owners name is Robert and the hotel is Crown Pacifiq Motel. Robert gave us a awesome deal on a ocean view room for only 59 dollars. So we moved the bikes up into the room and took some warm showers. Afterwards I went out and got some shrimp fried rice at the nearby chinese restaruant and filled our stomachs. Also, I was able to watch the latest final destination before heading to bed.
Tuesday August, 4
We decided to take a day off today. Have a father and son day. We wanna go out and get some kites to fly out in these amazing wind currents out on the Oregon coast. Also we might wash up some clothes, wash the bikes and I just caught up on the blog. Okay we gotta go eat so ill talk to you later. See ya
Thursday August, 5
Well we didn't fly any kites but we did get to relax and hang out. We got out of Lincoln city and headed into the
next one before we got some breakfast. We stopped by a coffee shop and grabbed some coffee along with Cinnamon rolls and
two muffins. Before we headed out though we met a group of 3 who was laughing and having a good time and they invited us
over to learn our travels and even gave us 20 bucks. We took their picture and said good bye as we headed back to the road.
After riding a few miles we found a pretty big town with a taco bell. After eating we met a lady(sorry can't remember the name)
we told us about a local bike shop named newport bikes. It was owned by her sister(the lady was watching her sisters two duaghters
by the way) and told us to check it out. Sure enough we met a mechanic from the bike shop and he came in and was getting some
taco bell real quick. So we headed to the bike shop and bought a headlight and me a new odometer becuase I lost mine. The
guy from taco bell came in a few minutes later and gave our bikes a free little tune up for us before we headed off. Thanks allot.
After leaving the town of Newport we didn't really do much beside ride until we reached a really small town were we camped under
a gazzibo next to the ocean.
Friday August, 6
Dad kicked me awake at 8 this morning and had to forced me out of bed. We rode 8 miles and saw some seals swimming
in the water. We ate breakfast at a local resteruant(I got two eggs and 4 pancakes. they called it the twoxfour) After
filling up we went and found the infamous sea lion caves but we decided to just grab some popcorn and two drinks due to
they wanted you to dish out 12 bucks to go into a stinky cave and watch sea lions sit on a rock. After that we headed into the
next town and grabbed the package Tina sent us at the local post office and grabbed some lunch at
a nearby macdonalds. After that we finished the day at a great 52 miles and grabbed some subway footlongs and set up tent
outside of town next to some powerlines. But before we went to bed we met a great couple we not only asked about our trip but
invited us over to their house for some hot showers. Their names were Mary and Larry and they were some very nice people. Had
three of the cutest shet-tzu's too. After a great shower we thanked them and we went back to our tent were we went in the tent
and fell asleep.
Saturday August, 7
We woke up and headed over to macdonalds and grabbed some breakfast. After that we headed to the next town were we grabbed some Taco bell, hung out by the port and met a cool family of 5 whose two kids was really curious about
our bikes. After that we headed off to the town of Brandon were we washed clothes, grabbed some pizza and afterwards we found
a great campsite beside the ocean. We got to overlook the boat dock and go to bed with the beautiful sound of the foghorn
blow every 10 seconds.
Sunday August, 8
The horn was still bowing this morning and the tent was wet thanks to the morning fog. We got some breakfast at a
local cafe called "Minute Cafe" and they had great service and could also tell it had some history to the cafe. After that
we headed off to the next town were we grabbed some baked goods to snake on and some snacks for the 27 mile
Journey to Gold beach. After eating we set off and ran into a dinasour land park. We stopped and grabbed some
drinks and headed back out. Finally after a 56 mile day we finally reached gold beach were we found a resteruant
called the porthole cafe. Grabbed some dinner here and found a campsite out back behind a wooden fence. Did i mention we
are having 30 mile per hour wind here?
Monday August, 9
Woke up to dad telling me that the harbor patrol was kicking us out. Got up and ate some breakfast and headed up to
the highest mountain in Oregan. A good 1000 foot climb that was about 2 miles up. Not the worst we've tackled but something
to look forward too. At the very top we took a bathroom break and when we left we saw a biker behind us. We lost him for a
second on a downhill but when he cuaght up to us we waved and called him over to hang out on the beach with us. After about
30 minutes of relaxing we headed back to our bikes and the biker we met(Daniel) asked if he could join us. He said that he
just started a few days ago and needed to join some other bikers who were a easy pace so he didn't outpace himself. Of
course we said yes and we headed off to the next the next stop which was Brookin, the last town of oregon by the way. Stopped
there and all three of us got some tacobell/kfc. After that we finally crossed the state line into California. From there
we found a great campsite beside the ocean where, for the first time, got to see the sun go down over the ocean. After
setting up tent all three of us got to walk along the beach and enjoy the warm sand.
Tuesday August, 10
Woke up and Dad actually let me sleep in today. Daniel and him went down and hung out on the beach until 10:00 and
then we all headed out. Got some breakfast at a casino 2 miles away. They had a little resteruant and we ate pretty good
there. We headed for crecent city wich was a good 17 miles away. I finally bought something iv'e been wanting for a while.
A zippo lighter. The owner tuaght me how to fill it up and gave me some fluid and I even bought a nice leather case for it. I bought it with my own money and it has been the only thing I have spent with my money the whole trip. After that we
headed over to a burgerking and grabbed some lunch. Then we rode some more miles(In total we rode about 42 miles today) and
slept at a campground which had warm showers and a pretty good campsite. The owner's wife was from Georgia also and She even
gave Dad Daniel some free coffee the next morning.
Wednesday August, 11
Got up and headed into Klamath were we got some breakfast at a town about 5 miles. The town was called Trinidad and
it was definitly a one horse town. Had to grab some coffee at one end of town and food at another end. After eating
and getting some food in our stomach we headed off down the road. We stopped into Eureka were we grabbed some macdonalds
and filled back up. After that we road a few more miles into Fortuna were we bought some dinner to go(doughnuts and coke)
and headed out of town were we found a very secluded spot beside a river to camp and eat. After setting up tent Daniel
wanted to go explore the area becuaase it had some trails so I went along with him. After that we headed back to the tents and fell
asleep.
Thursday August 12 - August 14
Im terribly sorry but i sent back my maps of northern california back to my house so now I dont have all the info I used to have. Ill sum it up the best I can. The next few days were like any other days. We was mainly trying to hurry these last few days due to the promise of a few days of free hotel stays becuase our freind Jim was in town and he invited us over. We reached some swimming spots were I even got to dive off some 7 foot rocks and relax in the nice cool water. No bad things happened all went pretty well. We also reached alot more "One horse town" that helped me realize how porta-potties really are your freinds when it comes to finding a public restrooms. You can go to 5 different stores and not one will have a public restroom to use. But anyway I hope I dont run into anymore problems like this again and Ill try to fill in these lost days when I get home.
Sunday August, 15
One of the best night sleeps in a while. Finally got to reach the beach again and me and Dad went walking while Daniel
stayed with the bikes. When we came back we had got some bad news. In about 6 miles his Dad was coming to pick him up and
go diving and then go back home. It was so shocking to us that someone we thought was going all the way to San Diego was
going to leave us in only 6 miles. When we reached fort bragg we sayed our good-byes and "Bro-hugged"(Shaked one hand and pat
each others back with the other). Good times we had this past week but people come and go. Daniel we wished you would have at
least left us your slippers so we could have a parting gift from you. Oh well, after leaving fort bragg and Daniel we met a
Sit down bicyclist who had alot of cool stories to tell us before heading off to fort bragg. After saying good-bye we headied
off t mendocine where we grabbed some delicious burgers(Got pictures of the owners) And then headed off to Albion were we
GRabbed some soda's and some snacks for a night snack and a quick breakfast in the morning. The owner told us about a beach down the
street that had campsites so we headed down there and watched the ocean. Of course we Didn't by a campsite but we
found a old house with a nice hid-away porch to sleep on so we fell asleep there.
Monday August, 16
Barely got any sleep last night for some reason and we woke up to the morning mist hitting on our face and hearing
the ocean waves.k Dad was up and moving around at 7 due to the lack of coffee for 5 miles. Packed up and headed off to the town
of Elk were we found a nice all organic cafe that served us both 4 pancakes a peice with some sryup so good that it would
make you slap your mamma twice then make your tongue slap the brain out the top of your head(Just not having them in front of me while I type makes me
want to slap your mamma right now...twice). After that we headed off to menchester where we found a post office where we
met the coolest post man we've ever met. He was also a surfer who traveled to different areas to surf. We sent back all of our
old maps and some clothes we did't were anymore(As I am typing I can here coyotes howling, cows moo'ing, and the ocean raging).
After losing some weight off of the bicycles we went to Anchor bay were we grabbed some fruit, candy, soda and chocolate milk.
Snacked on those for a little while and headed off to enjoy the nice level road to come. Also got to see a Shelby cobra and a
Dodge viper and even met their owners. Owners were very amazed about our trip and even took pictures of us. We rode a good
53-54 mile day today and slept on the side of the road looking out over the ocean. Right behind us is some cow pastures and
the cows are still moo'ing. Maybe Ill get to wake up to the calls of the seagulls again.
Tuesday August, 17
Pretty cold this morning. Plus had to ride 3 miles to get something in orur bellies. But it was only a Muffin until
10 more miles down the road where we was able to get some good sandwhiches and chocolate milk. We met a group of three bikers
that were heading our way that stopped by and hung out with us whiule we ate. I helped one guy with his laptop(I really
couldnt do much but suggest he get some more ram. He only had 1 gig of it and he couldnt even make calls through skype). After
about 30 minutes of hanging out with them and me helping him with his laptop they finally left us and afterwards we left. After
leaving Jenner(Beautiful by the way, I would love to get a house there) We headed out to Bodega bay were we grabbed some
fish and chips for lunch and then to valley ford where we picked up some bear claws(The baked kind) for dinner and then
after a 52 mile day we finished in Tomales where we piched tent behind a church here. Alright We will finally be in San Francisco
by Tomorrow so Ill see you then.
Wendsday August, 18
Heard some really weird noises last night. But we was able to get breakfast as soon as we woke up today which is the first in a while. After breakfast we headed off to San Francisco. We ran into a bike store at a town before then and got a little tune up on our derailers. Dad really loved the way the owner worked like he actually cared about his work. After that we stopped at a bakery, grabbed some lunch, and headed off to the legendary mountains that have been forboding us until now. They was pretty tough, but we got a nice veiw of San Francisco from the top. After wards we reached the last town before San Francisco which was Saucalito. There we hung out on these docks which literally held house boats. These were houses that probably didnt moved and was literally right on the water. We relaxed on the dock here until we decided we was ready to face the ravaging streets. We finally reached the bridge and while we was crossing it I believe dad a picture every 5 steps. A picture is worth a thousand words. After crossing the bridge and realizing just how high it really was, we had to find a campsite behind some bushes a mile or 2 from the bridge. It was beautfiul to see it lit up at night and Dad made sure the camera stayed rolling with snapshots.
Thursday August, 19
Such a big Day today. When we visited the outskirts of the city everyone was jogging and doing areobics. I was surprised by how many people were actually exercising. We grabbed some breakfast at a nearby cafe and headed into town. Saw alot of stuff and even got to take Dad to a "IN-n-OUT" burger. They dont have these were Im from but I got to go to one when I visted Las Vegas a few years ago and loved it. Dad liked it too so it was a success. After that we biked down all the piers and was going to book for the alcatraz tour when we found out that the tour was booked until september. That broke my Dad's heart due to he was dreaming going in there and learning all he could about the island. After the tragedy we decided that there wasnt much left to see so we headed back to highway one. Sure enough though it decides to turn into a major freeway and force us off to find our own path. We was able to find the bike route thankfully and we even found a hotel to stay in tonight. I got to wash some clothes and even met a group of bikers who started in oregon and were heading to montara bay tommorow. I really enjoyed the shower a few minutes ago and can't wait to enjoy a warm bed tonight.
Friday August, 20
I was able to say good-bye to the bikers this morning and had some breakfast downstairs. Had to ride my bike a mile up the road to get some lunch and now Im working on the blog. Im about to call some family and wash up my bike and Ill probably see you on the road tomorrow.
